For many, this is their favourite time of year. It is no wonder, for we, most of us I hope, don’t need toys, adult or child’s, to realize we are incredibly lucky to have what we do, a beautiful part of the world to live in, a home and food aplenty, even in this difficult growing zone, we can celebrate our good fortunes. Locally, there have been many events going on, in the last few weeks, to bring those facts into focus; The Fall Fair at Fort Steele, The weekly Farmer’s Market, The Ed Talk at the Cranbrook History Museum celebrating local food production and the Pumpkin Extravaganza at Top Crop. Going to a Pumpkin patch to pick out a ready ‘made’ pumpkin is not the same as actually growing one and it is wonderful to see the growers being celebrated. I believe our growing zone emphasizes how important our food growers are. To all those who baby their plants through frost and snow, drought and heat so that food may be put on the table, well done and thank you. There are many days in which to say Thanks but in this lead up to next week’s Thanksgiving, here are few pictures to celebrate what we have right here in our own fields and gardens. Let’s share the bounty with our programs that help those less fortunate who maybe don’t have food aplenty.
