In A Vase, May 27th

Please join me with an idea I stole from and Rambling in the Garden, in the U.K. who hosts this wonderful idea, once a week to share our garden gleanings gussied up and in a vase. I would love to post your florals from our Zone Three in the mountains of B.C. on the page button ‘In a Vase’ on this blog. zonethreegardenlife.blog Just send your photo and I will post. We are so much more limited for most of the year in what can choose from in our climate so sharing your ideas would be fabulous.

Today Monday 27th

Boxy Curves

I used Buckeye Chestnut leaves , Cushion Spurge, Euphorbia polychroma and Nepeta ‘Walker Low’ for this blocky arrangement and then contrasted it with the curvy blue lines of some Italian glass.

Airy

A few days later I had so much more to choose from despite the cool nights. I used:

Sweet Cicely leaves, Myrrhis odorata

Crane’s Bill, Geranium phaeum

Crane’s Bill, Geranium – could be Johnson’s Blue!

Honesty, Lunaria

Forget-Me-Nots, Myosotis

Catmint, Nepeta ‘Walker Low’

Lamb’s Ears, Stachys byzantina

…and one Cosmos flower from a pack of bedding plants!

Your Contributions:

From Donna:

Bleeding heart, Dicentra, Lilac, Syringa, Mountain Ash Sorbus, Columbine, Aquilegia

Your link on Cathy’s IAVOM post didn’t work (at least for me), Jenny, but I was able to find you based on your blog’s name using a browser search. Both your arrangements are lovely, although I’ll admit a preference for the “airy” one. I hope we’ll see you on future IAVOM posts. You can find my IAVOM post via the link on Cathy’s site or this link: https://krispgarden.blogspot.com/2024/05/in-vase-on-monday-rescues-from-pit-of.html

Thank you so much for letting me know. It didn’t work last time I tried either and I haven’t a clue what I doing wrong. The link works for me. I just copy the url and paste it! Thank you for going to the trouble to find me! I will continue to try and sort this out!

I am so pleased we have finally made proper contact Jenny, and reading your ‘about’ page I now know a little bit about you and where you ae too – hopefully Mondays will be trouble free from now on!! 😁 I particularly liked the shape of both your vases today – they both had a very pleasing ‘flow’ to them, and they were equally appealing but in different ways. Does the nepeta last OK in a vase? Strangely, it’s something that doesn’t seem to do well for me at all

Yes,it does and is basic for me because it repeat blooms, is tough and grows here!We have a very dry atmosphere – maybe that is the difference.

Your airy vase is beautiful! I love all those plants you used and the vase itself is really lovely!

A lovely set of vases, Jenny. It must be quite challenging to garden in zone 3, but it seems you’ve got the hang of it!

Thank You. I’ve been at it while now. I never stop missing the temperate climate I grew up with but enjoy the challenge!
