35C is hot and watering restrictions are difficult! A slow cool spring followed by sudden heat has made my vision of a cutting garden awash with blooms of every colour and texture diminish to my fall back of next year’s vision, ‘I will do things differently’. This cutting garden is okay but not a thrilling triumph. I don’t have a huge area for it and I made the mistake of not combining some of the annuals well. The Sweet Annie has taken over and grown so large it shadows some of the other plants. The Queen Ann’s Lace either does not like Sweet Annie or sulked because of the cold weather earlier on. It is odd because other years I have just thrown it in the perennial border and it has been beautiful. Such is the life of a gardener and I think the anticipation of next year even at this early stage of the year is what propels us forward, forever seeking perfection.

So what is new this week? The biggest perennial border is just coming into its own which will make the Humming Birds happy as there is so much scarlet Bergamot just starting. Finally, a few annuals are stating to prove their value.

I did not venture far from the garden gate this week as it has been so hot. The wild flowers are dying down into their summer hibernation and soon berries of all sorts will start to be visible .

Enjoying the blooms on offer and excited to see my second sowing of Zucchini worked and they are growing inches daily.
