In A Vase, Monday August 26

Cooler nights, cooler mornings, wonderfully refreshing. According to my husband my thermostat is broken because I cannot self regulate my temperature. Summers are just too darn hot for me and I look forward to this time of year, when fall is on its way returning my energy level to a little more perkiness. Some plants prefer these temperatures too and undergo a little refresh of their own, blooming for a second time. My roses have new buds and the perennials I cut back all have a few new blooms. On the other side of the picture, many plants are beginning to look tired and a bit scraggly. After the drought followed by stormy downpours some of my perennials have mildew. I will let nature deal with it as the hummers are still loving the Bergamot, Monarda and I don’t think they would like the taste of soap any more than I do. The Rudbeckias however, make a wonderful show at this time of year.

Rudbeckia

I mentioned before that while I love these cubic vases for showing off individual flowers keeping their stems in place can be a challenge. Problem solved with aquarium pebbles. I often use marbles but felt they were too distracting for this.

You cannot beat Ikebana when you only have a few blooms so here are a few of the flowers currently blooming but not in large quantities. One Gerbera, One Yarrow, Two Zinnias, Three Snapdragons, ‘Chantilly Lace’ and Three Pincushion, Scabiosa ‘Fata morgana.’ varieties mixed as I save seed and I often just cannot tell you with the shenanigans that go on in the garden!

I will look forward to seeing others creations on Cathy’s page at: https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/

I so appreciate all those kindred spirits around the world even when I don’t have time to comment on everybody’s postings. Cathy, you are amazing to keep up with everybody who posts to, ‘In a Vase On Monday’

A garden fence comes to mind when I look at your Rudbeckia arrangement, pretty set!

I envy you those cooler nights, Jenny! While we’ve had some cooler days in between the really “warm” ones, we’ve got too much summer yet ahead of us regardless of what the calendar says. I love Rudbeckia too, even if they’re effectively annuals here. I’m hopeless when it comes to Ikebana as I can’t help myself from stuffing my vases full 😉

Stuff them in anyway! Rules are meant to be broken. I don’t follow them I’m afraid but I like the shallow vessel with a frog to make things easy!!

Still have to use my phone to comment on your blog – clicking the comment box on my laptop does nothing at all…so strange. Anyway, I especially love this first vase today – the elegance is in the simplicity. It’s so stylish, but so is your second one, albeit in a very different way. I am so glad you enjoy IAVOM – for me, it is a privilege to host and facilitate it

It is very strange isn’t it?! Sometimes these things seem to fix themselves so I hope this will be the case. I certainly appreciate that you have gone to the trouble to comment from your phone. I appreciate your thoughtful feedback.

  6. […] the idea for today’s vase from last week’s contribution by Jenny of Zone Three Garden (sorry Jenny, and thanks!), in which she placed several stems of rudbeckia in a clear glass vase, […]
