Flower Friends

I am sharing this video not because I am a flower farmer but I love flowers as these people do and in a world of hurricanes of all kinds, I find comfort in what they bring to us.

My first memory of flowers is walking around my Grandmother’s garden and listening while she told me plant names. I loved their names, Granny’s Bonnets, Policeman’s Helmet, Monk’s Hoods, I also remember the homemade baskets of Primroses that the Travellers would bring to our door to sell. That doesn’t happen very often anymore but those mossy baskets with wild Primroses were magical to me as a child. In some countries it is still possible to buy flowers from a street seller, a custom that I think speaks volumes about what flowers bring to us. As a child my favourite books were ‘The Flower Fairies’ by Cicely Mary Barker and ‘The Secret Garden’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett and I can remember looking at the illustrations over and over again. Watching and listening to those in the video reminded me of those things. What were your first memories of flowers in your life, I wonder?

If you love Dahlias and Erin inspires you, she has a new Dahlia on line workshop coming up for those interested. Just head over to ‘Floret’ at https://www.floretflowers.com/

Early impressions are from my grandfather’s garden– sweet william, a grape arbor to hide in and a cherry tree with copper-red bark. That and the wildflowers I was allowed to pick to my heart’s content. 🌸

Love that. A Grape arbor, yum and so many wild flowers that we could pick without feeling guilty!
