A Week Of Flowers 6

Published by

Responding to Cathy’s invitation https://wordsandherbs.wordpress.com/ remembering our garden delights as we approach the darkest day of the year.

Most of these plants I have had for so long I don’t remember the varieties I’m afraid. Some have been gifts and some have been the result of garden inter breeding. These were all blooming in July.

Delphinium and Scarlet Bergamot, Monarda
Sea Holly Eryngium
Magenta Bergamot, Monarda and Pink Achillea, Yarrow
Water lily, Nymphaea ‘Virginalis’
From the herb garden Elecampane, Inula helenium

Persian Cornflower, Centaurea dealbata

Such lovely flowers, Jenny. I am enchanted by the Inula, what striking blooms!

Thanks Eliza. Elecampane can spread its progeny around and it does get large but it is impressive!

Your July garden is full of great plants and good color.

A beautiful selection. You have reminded me to find a sea holly for next year. I had one but for some reason it died… probably those pesky mice again. It set hundreds of seedlings but it may be years before they flower! I would also love to grow Inula but after having one in a very large container in my old garden I realized it might take over the garden. It was enormous! Those flowers are lovely though… Thank you for sharing Jenny! 😃

Oh yes, so true! I try hard to stay on top of it but my gardening motto here is “If it survives our winters, it is welcome’! I have seen it in big and beautiful perennial borders and it looks exotic with its big leaves. I keep mine in a restricted spot!
