Standing 28inches tall, this Hippeastrum a.k.a. Amaryllis is named appropriately as, ‘Mont Blanc’. It is the first of my small collection to bloom and opened its first flower on Christmas day. The timing was pure luck but a lovely treat for as Christmas Day arrives I am ready for some fresh flowers.
This one has grown so tall I had to suspend a loop from the curtain rod to hold it up rather like an Italian tomato! The flowering stem would sway so far to the light, pushing against the glas,s it required turning twice a day. This solved the problem.

Cathy of ‘Rambling in the Garden’ blog has the good fortune to live in a milder U.K. climate very similar to what we find on the West Coast. Many of the Vancouver and Victoria gardens will displaying the same and similar plants to hers right now. If you have a chance to visit Butchart Gardens in Victoria at this time of year I highly recommend it.

In the meantime I hope you are able to head over to ‘Rambling In the Garden’ where Cathy hosts ‘In a Vase On Monday’ with plants available in her garden right now.
In keeping with the name of today’s Hippeastrum I am showing our local ‘Mont Blanc’! It does not reach the height of 4,809 m (15,777feet) but is a standout locally at 2,843-metre (9,327-feet). Mt. Fisher is part of the Steeples Range in the Rockies.

The last two photos are taken from a bedroom in my house.
