In a Vase, Monday, March 24, 2025

It truly felt like Spring today although it was overcast and attempting to rain. Although the garden is still too frozen to be workable, it was noisy with birdsong. Flickers, Blue Jays, Juncos, Starlings, American Robins and Chickadees all paid the garden a visit and they were a joy to see.

A visit to the supermarket provided me with my first daffodils, Narcissus. The garden daffodils are a few weeks away still but these, transported from Vancouver Island, smelled wonderful. Their ‘vase’ is an L.E. Smith vintage ‘Moon and Stars’ green glass bowl. Anchoring the daffodils was a bit of a challenge but a plastic bag filled with oasis and covered with trusty moss did the trick. I never know how to display daffodils to advantage so making them short took a bit of courage as I wanted to try something new.

Nice arrangement, they can be tricky (to me)! What a unique bowl, love the color.

It is certainly a tricky one to use so does not appear often!

That vase is lovely Jenny – so unusual. And the daffodils are of course lovely too! 😃 My first small ones are starting to flower already… not long now!

Thanks Cathy. Mine will be a while but they are just showing out of their frozen winter state!

I love this, Jenny! It’s cheerful (something we all need at the moment) and beautifully presented in that green bowl. What did you use to support the daffodils so neatly?

It was a dilemma! A plastic bag, oasis and moss – still holding up after 4 days!

I love it. My mother had a similar vase, I am now wondering what happened to it. Short stems worked out well here. Amelia

I hope you find it! I am a bit of a squirrel and always on the look out for different vessels!

Oh that vase is perfect for your very welcome daffodils, and you have clearly worked out an effective way of displaying them in it – the colours work so well together. I hope you have had many days of pleasure from admiring it 👌

Thanks Cathy. The daffs actually lasted longer than I thought they would!

Lovely to see your daffies Jenny. I always buy supermarket bunches until those in the garden are in full flow which they are now for us. Your green vase is rather special. Do you know it’s age?

I think the vase is about 70 years old. It is a fun one but not easy to arrange in!!
