In a Vase, Monday July 28, 2025

Sunny and hot and after the unusually large amount of rain for July everything is growing tall and green. So, for today I have more luscious froth! The Ammi, Queen Anne’s Lace has gone crazy. Loving it, as I do, I picked more and chose a different pot for the similar selection as last week. It reminds me of English lanes overflowing with Cow Parsley.

Yarrow Achillea millefolium, Lady’s mantle, Alchemilla mollis, Snapdragon, Antirrhinum ‘Chantilly Lace’ , Zinnia, Queen Anne’s Lace Ammi majus, Cress, Lepidium sativum, Larkspur, Delphinium ? and Clarkia, Godetia

I have many colours of Yarrow. It is a perennial that is so easily started from seed. I just started in a row and then kept the colours I like.

A vibrant flower arrangement featuring pink, purple, and white blossoms in a copper pot, placed on a wooden table with lush green foliage in the background.

Then, because I needed something a little different, an old olive oil can with some heat consisting of a Dahlia believed to be ‘Vudu’, Crocosmia ‘ Lucifer’, Monarda ‘Red’?, Yarrow Achillea millefolium, red? , Burnet, Sanguisorba officinalis and Sweet William, Dianthus babatus.

An old olive oil can repurposed as a flower vase, filled with vibrant red and burgundy flowers, including a large dahlia, against a plain wall.

In our corner of B.C. we have been lucky so far this year with little forest fire smoke, slightly cooler temperatures and abundant rain. However I know many are sweltering under choking skies. I hope all those people are still taking comfort in their gardens.

Both are lovely and shout SUMMER. I’ve never used yarrow in an arrangement, for no good reason! Thanks for the idea.

What a lovely arrangement Jenny. Love all the froth and colour again. The copper vase is gorgeous and really makes those colours even warmer. I didn’t know Achillea are easy to grow from seed, so must try that. Do you sow in spring?

Yes I sowed in spring but I am positive it would work in fall also – after all it sows itself frequently! Check the package you are ordering but you get all the lovely colours and can then keep only the ones you like! No fancy names though!

I wish Achillea did as well in my garden as it does in yours, Jenny! While Achillea ‘Moonshine’ has done well here, I haven’t had much luck with other varieties thus far. I love your olive oil can! That was a great container to hold onto and you’ve done nicely by it with your red flowers.

Gosh, I am surprised it doesn’t do well it loves dry and well drained. Do you know why that is? Plants are so interesting with their likes and dislikes!

Ooh, what a lovely frothy vase that first one is, so light and summery – I have enjoyed inspecting the photos to find the individual components you mentioned. And the second little vase is so elegant, with such beautifully chosen complementary colours. Thanks for sharing, Jenny
