In a Vase, Monday August 11, 2025

This arrangement is very similar to a couple of weeks ago but a bit more spiny. Going with the many architectural purple and blues in the garden right now, it contains Globe thistle, Echinops ritro, Sea Holly Eryngium, (two species),Monkshood, Aconitum napellus, Garden Phlox Phlox paniculata, Statice, Limonium, Larkspur, Delphinium. I admit I am not 100% certain of the Sea Holly species. They are distinctly different and the smaller could be ‘maritinum.’

These drought tolerant plants do well in the garden at this time of year when we are normally in a drought period. That has not been the case so far this year as we have received many heavy thundershowers! When my grandson arrived recently he commented, “Granny, you have a jungle!” Almost!

……..and on the softer side, a little posy of Persian Jewels, Nigella and Queen Anne’s Lace Ammi majus

I love these blues and purples, and the mix of textures, soft and spiny!

I always like to see vase of blues, and it was interesting to see what you have flowering at the same time, as delphinium and aconitum are well over before echinops flower here. And I was intrigued by the teasel as I don’t thnk I realised the flowers are that colour – can I only ever have seen them dried or when flowering has fnished?! And I love your second vase -simple, but so sweet – it doesn’t need fancy blooms to get pleasure from a vase

You are so correct – any flower in a vase brings pleasure inside. The Larkspur is annual Larkspur but still Delphinium. It blooms all
July, August. Interesting about the Aconitum! Mine usually follows the perennial Delphinium by a few weeks which it has.

So lovely Jenny! All those different shades of blue and purple together are really dreamy. Your abundant rain has produced some fabulous results, and they are beautifully arranged in your blue vase too. 😃
