In a Vase, Monday July 13

July’s glory is an abundance of flowers to admire and play with. I am still waiting for a few annuals to show their colours but keeping up with the snapdragons has been fun. I need to keep picking to keep them all blooming until fall. The beauty of this is that I have a few bunches to give away each week, which for me is the most fun and pleasurable activity and I get to practise spiral bouquets. I will need this skill perfected for the wedding flowers I hope to supply for my granddaughter’s wedding.

This week’s arrangement is in what I have learned is a ‘mantle vase’. I love the boat shape but it can be a catastrophe when carrying from one location to another. The water is shallow and I learned , the hard way, that one end is lower than the other. The flowers are supported with chicken wire attached to the vase with waterproof floral tape. I now top it up once in location to prevent the waterfall which happens if the vase is not completely horizontal while being transported! Having tried various locations to get a decent photo the vase eventually made its way to the local gallery.

Included in this mixture are: Cosmos; Meadow Sweet, Filipendula; Yarrow, Achillea ; Pearly Everlasting ; Daucus; Dill, Anethum graveolens; Feverfew, Tanacetum; Sweet Pea, Lathyrus odorata; Rose campion, Lychnis coronaria; Campanula persicifolia; Ladies Mantle, Alchemilla mollis, Snapdragon, Antirrhinum; Prairie Mallow, Sidalcea; Sweet William, Dianthus barbatus

Thank you to Cathy of Rambling in the Garden for hosting ‘In A Vase On Monday’. I hope readers are able to head over there for more beautiful summer blooms.
