Summer’s abundance, keep it coming! When I was gainfully employed, I used to leave most of my flowers alone in the garden except for special occasions. I could admire them there and had little time to play. I often had requests for vases of flowers for parent days at school or the odd reception but I rarely had an abundance of blooms . Now retired and only growing flowers, I have a compulsion to pick more in order to produce more. The result of this, is a small overflow of blooms that I can share them around and that provides enormous pleasure.
This last week I have been enjoying bundles of Daucus. The composite blooms of this exquisite flower remind me of of cow parsley lined lanes of Great Britain, Belgian Lace and winter ice patterns. I mixed it in with Poppies, Papaver somniferum, Annual Larkspur, Consolida, Queen Ann’s Lace, Ammi majus, Dill , Anethum graveolens and Yarrow, Achillea millefolium, in this vase but to be honest I think prefer it alone most of the time. I can’t resist poppies so gave them a boiling water dip and they pleased me by lasting really well this time. Their beauty is that the seed heads are also attractive.

For good measure and because this ‘Bora Bora’ Dahlia opened, here is a contrasting vase of a fixed appearance rather than froth! It is supported by one Hosta leaf a few ‘Voodoo’ Dahlias and a complimentary vintage glass plate.

I hope everyone is also enjoying an abundance of bloom this summer.
