We are dried almost to a crisp with fires raging too close for comfort. Summer is very different these days and our gardens struggle. It is hard to keep up with watering in the few hours we are allowed and the poor tomatoes are slow to ripen when sunlight is filtered through the particulate matter and vapours of forest fire. These are trivial consequences compared to all those who have lost homes in neighbouring valleys. This gloomy description matches the gloomy skies but despite all, I know that the skies will clear of smoke eventually and the fires will die down. Forests will grow again and our gardens will green up.

Here is a Dahlia ‘Bora Bora’ accompanied by Zinnias and Snapdragons, Antirrhinum to cheer things up with its albeit flame like petals.

I love umbels of all sorts and as my Daucus in its second year, has produced magnificently, I thought it appropriate to let it shine on its own.
