With the number of forest fires burning in the west of North America, my flowers today are as simple as it gets and in tribute to the loss of our spectacular Jasper B.C. we went from a cool damp but not wet Spring to burning heat all over the west. Farmers and gardeners have to be prepared for garden glory and complete devastation from at worst, forest fire, grasshoppers, drought and any number of other weapons of nature. The joy from a good harvest or a display of spectacular flowers is always a celebration. We anticipate that joy every year and this year is no exception despite what nature throws at us, it also always provides the calm and rhythm we crave.

Feeling Blue

Not all of Jasper was destroyed in the fire but many historic landmarks and people’s homes were. My heart goes out to all of those people, the flora and fauna that were lost.

Forget -me -Nots, Cynoglossom amabile, Love-In-A-Mist, Nigella, and a few Bachelor Buttons, Centaurea cyanus in a blue enamel pot. These plants all have blue flowers but there is meaning in their names also. The ephemeral nature of these annuals also reminds us that we are here for but a short time.

We look forward to seeing the power of nature eventually return the parts of Jasper National Park and the town destroyed by fire to its former glory. Time is a great healer.
