In a Vase, Monday, August 5th

Between temperatures of 35C plus for weeks and no rain at all for 35 days straight, my flowers were looking haggard. Then a major electrical storm blew in at 3:30pm yesterday afternoon and we received 1.1 inches of rain in 4 hours. The flowers bowed down in thanks but many broke off with the weight of the water so today has been a clean-up day! So far so good around us on the forest fire front and I don’t believe any new fires were started by the lightning. If they were, the heavy rain likely put them out but you never know as sometimes they can smolder for a few days. Fingers crossed. Poor garden is looking very bedraggled but the precipitation hopefully, will perk things up. Watering does not match a good rainfall. The petrichor was wonderful. I learned that word this summer,’ the smell after rain,’ as a friend named her garden ‘Petrichor.’

The Bells of Ireland were so bent and broken, I harvested them and must decide where to dry them.

This week’s flowers are from last week as a result of yesterday’s events. Luckily I have started taking photos of my flowers before they leave the house! This one went to the gallery and the bouquet to a friend.

Just Peachy

Contentsin both include Poppy heads; Calamagrostis X acutiflora ‘Karl Foerster’ grass; Burnet, Sanguisorba; Chinese Forget-me-Nots, Cynoglossum; Yarrow, Achillea millefolium; Lunaria seed heads; Antirrhinum ‘Chantilly Lace’; Achillea ‘The Pearl’; Larkspur, Delphinium; Morden Rose ‘Simon Fraser’; Zinnia

For good measure I will throw in this weeks thrift store find for $2 , a vase I know I will use a lot. Same flowers in the mix plus some Cosmos but so easy to use with a few bits and pieces.

Now the garden is partially tidied up and I have posted this, I will head over to https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/ and visit all the lovely flowers that will be posted there in In a Vase On Monday! Thank you Cathy for hosting.

Beautiful arrangement, Jenny. I love poppy heads and grasses in arrangements for a natural look.

Thank you Eliza. There are so many seed heads that are as attractive as some flowers aren’t there!

Indeed: “Watering does not match a good rainfall.” I’m glad you received some needed rain after such high temperatures and dry weather. All your bouquets are beautiful!
