East Kootenay Invasive Weed Council hires summer students to educate the public as well as assist in both identification and removal of invasive weeds. The East Kootenays are not the only zone three area where much of the information in the following presentation applies. In fact, most of the information applies anywhere. There is a vast difference however in the specific plants that are considered invasive, from area to area. For example, Baby’s Breath, Gypsophila is considered invasive in the East Kootenays but might be grown as an ornamental in a different climate zone. Invasive plants over time have changed the flora of many inhabited areas, often to the detriment of that area. It is worth becoming aware of what plants might be considered detrimental to the flora in your area and this information can easily be found by looking up Invasive Plants /Weeds and then listing your region of the country.
