In a Vase, Monday December 10

We had one day of above freezing temperatures and some RAIN!! The beautiful fluffy white snow is now glazed with a hard skin of ice. Hoping for more snow to freshen things up this week.

Is anyone else ready for bulbs?! I have one Amaryllis, Hippeastrum almost ready to bloom but the rest will be a few weeks yet, so here we go with a few more winter and Christmas arrangements.

This one ‘Twiggy’ is just that, a collection of lichen covered twigs and such from the forest, representing the winter landscape. Bare Larch, Larix branches, Wild Red Osier Dogwood, Cornus sericea Dead Douglas Fir Pseudotsuga menziessii branches, Wild Rosehips and Wild White Snow Berries, Symphoricarpos albus, Spruce Picea cones, bark Wolf Lichen, Letharia and others

This one looks a little bland today but is destined to have a few white or cream carnations to tone with the beeswax candle, when I can get to the supermarket! It contains Larch, Larix twigs, Juniper, Juniperus scopolorum, Western Red Cedar, Thuja plicata, and Douglas Fir, Pseudotsuga menziessii , dried orange rings and cinnamon bark.

I am missing my Google Pixel phone, which died and which took such good photos, so hopefully I will get my new one to replace it, this week! The old ipad just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Take it easy this week and hope you can take in some forest bathing to easy the craziness of this upcoming festive season.

Your twiggy arrangement is suprisingly colourful with the lichen and berries. It’s lovely to see what trees grow near you. I did some forest bathing this morning too. No snow here yet though. I hope that rain on top of your snow hasn’t made the roads too treacherous. Take care!

The main highways are fine. In town the frozen lumps and bumps make for interesting driving and walking for that matter!! I enjoy what winter reveals in our forests although I am glad I went out in November to collect! Bright and sunny today -11C so no chance of more snow!

I love your arrangement of pieces of tree and the beautiful lichens, collected together and given that glow with candles and baubles. I myself love picking up tree and shrub discards, adding them to little still lifes around the house.

I totally relate to that! I’m a bit of a squirrel.

These arrangements are beautiful and festive, Jenny. I like the look of candles in an arrangement, but one must keep a good eye on it, lest it all go up in flames! I used to have one of the solar column candles, but sadly, it fell and broke. šŸ™

Just for looks! I would be loathe to light it unattended!

I love that you pin names to each of your garden arrangements, Jenny. Twiggy has a lot of personality and offers another well-deserved nod to the season. I also envy you the rain.

It would be great for you to get some of the wet stuff soon – A Christmas Wish! Twiggy is another love/hate I think but it does show off the variety of bare twigs in the forest. I often feel sorry for the trees without their fine foliage of summer as they lose their attention getting displays!

I love this twiggy arrangement, it’s just perfect for this time of year!
