In a vase, Monday May 5th, 2025

Sudden warmth and a burst of blooms has made for more busy times with so much to do in the garden.

This new, (to me) Art Deco vase provided me with a fun hour or two deciding how to best display some of the new blooms. I ended up with three frogs but next time I will use florist’s invisible tape to crisscross the top. That is what I used in the second square pot, a little gift for a volunteer event. It is always fun to make an arrangement in a new vase and this one, which I acquired off Marketplace is one I love but is a bit of a challenge!

Both arrangements use similar mixtures of Hellebores, Grape Hyacinths, Muscari, Cushion Spurge Euphorbia polychroma, Catmint, Nepeta racemosa, Tulips, Lily of the Valley, Convallaria majalis, Leopard’s Bane, Doronicum orientale, Brunnera ‘Jack Frost’, Honesty, Lunaria,Lungwort, Pulmonaria, Lamb’s Ears, Stachys, byzantina and Honeysuckle, Lonicera for structure in the yellow boat.

Cushion Spurge is such a great plant for hardiness and extended interest in this climate. It is also a wonderful filler!

Do head over to ‘Rambling in the Garden’ Where Cathy hosts this lovely adventure in decorating with our home grown flowers.

Today you will find some of her ‘Parrot Tulips’ and links to many other lovely arrangements from around the world.

These displays are pure spring joy Jenny! You are definitely talented at arranging flowers – I have almost the same plants in my spring garden but would never have thought to put them together like this. Love them!

Thank you so much Cathy! I believe we all have a style just like making pastry – everyone’s is different but it is all good!

You did both vases proud with your jubilant arrangements, Jenny! What a bounty of flowers and foliage you had at your fingertips. The first arrangement looks like a miniature garden.

It is amazing how so suddenly the flowers erupt. It is a jubilation isn’t it at this time of year? Thank you for your kind words.

After having been away visiting family for several days, I read your first sentence and thought yes…! So much of everything, blooms, buds, foliage and jobs! I love this wide open vase and what you have done with it, realising that I don’t ave any sort of vase like this at all. I know it means you need more blooms to fill it, but you have done so well with the abundance you have – such a great result, I love it! And a bonus vase too!

Thank you Cathy. I always have this feeling of I can’t catch up at this time of year and by the time I come in I am ready for bed. I am sure people wonder ‘What does she do out there all day?” but gardeners know!! Of course I have to sit every fifteen minutes or so!! I think vases are my new addiction!
