I grew up admiring Constance Spry. This ages me just a bit!! However I have always loved gardening and flowers. My small claim to fame is that my great grandfather founded the London Chrysanthemum Society. I have the leather bound minutes. My Uncle carried on the tradition of trying to grow the biggest Chrysanthemum for the London show and his long narrow London garden with Chrysanthemum heads propped up all along one wall is still vivid as a childhood memory. As a student at College I volunteered to do the weekly flowers in the old mansion, now administration building and these little markers in my history have only grown my love of showing flowers off as best I can. I love them in the garden but I love them close up and in a vase also.
Flower arranging has evolved since Constance Spry and I admire many of the well-known floral designers in the world although I admit I still gravitate back to the U.K. and names I have become familiar with over the years. Erin from Floret just shared an interview with American designer Frances Palmer so I thought it appropriate to share.
