In a Vase, Monday June 9, 2025

I have Ranunculus – just a few but I am quite thrilled they made it. For this weeks vase I sacrificed a few, some of which look more like poppies! Also included are Yellow Loosestrife, Lysimachia punctata, Mountain Bluet, Centaurea montana, Salvia (?) purple Anemone from corms, Iceland poppies,Papaver nudicaule, Ranunculus with Oregano and Lady’s mantle, Alchemilla mollis as fillers.

The Sweet Rocket, Hesperis matronalis in the garden, is gradually letting leggy and floppy so I spent quite a bit of time this weekend, thinning out excess growth. Although I have left quite a bit I shall miss that heavy scent as I walk around the garden. The gumdrop colours in today’s vase make a lovely change from those spring pastels.

Rananculus are so beautiful, but never easy to grow, for me anyhow! Yours make for a very interesting vase, especially trying to work out which are the ranunculus and which are the poppies! I love the ‘gum drop’ colours, which you have accentuated by using that deep blue vase…lovely 👍

They look so similar don’t they! The Ranunculus have those raised centers but you can’t see them very clearly!

I haven’t thought of gum drops in years! It is a great description for your summery colors collection. I have always wanted to grow Anemones, so pretty and I love cobalt glass. Amelia

Thank you Amelia. The vase actually has a crack so I lined it with a plastic bag!!I had a very large blue glass vase separate from it’s base once. The contents totally soaked a dresser and carpet!! I’ve been wary ever since!
