In a Vase, Monday October 13th, 2025

Today it snowed! Yes, the warm temperatures of the last two weeks vanished overnight. Temperatures dropped over the last two days with the frost first and now some snow showers- nothing on the ground to speak of in town but the mountain passes are pretty white. So it is back to winter tires and fashion changes.

Luckily I rescued the last of my Cosmos and a few other bits and pieces to say goodbye to summer.

A vibrant bouquet of wildflowers in a glass jar placed on a red tablecloth, with a cozy living room in the background featuring a fireplace.
Close-up of white daisies in a floral arrangement with purple flowers in the background, set against a sunny interior.

The gleanings will be simpler from now on and I must say I do enjoy making something out of very little. It proves to me there is is always plant life alive and well at all times of the year despite snow and ice.

We may well have another mild spell, fingers crossed but we never know these days!

In this vase is Cosmos, Rudbeckia lacienata, Aconitum carmichaelii, Globe Thistle, Echinops, Burning Bush, Euonymus alatus and Fall Asters pretty much the same selection as last week.

The trees are now shedding their leaves quickly especially the Poplars and Manitoba Maples. many of the different maples are now showing their array of reds, greens, oranges and yellows.

Today is Thanksgiving in Canada, a Harvest Festival in other words and we are indeed thankful for the bounty of food and flowers that our gardens of all shapes and sizes provide.

Time to think about hibernation!

A snowy garden scene featuring colorful autumn leaves, a bare tree, and a set of wooden stairs leading into the path.

I am thankful for Cathy of Rambling in the Garden, https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/

who keeps me motivated to post this at least once a week. There we can view flowers from so many other wonderful gardens near and far.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving.

Your garden looks pretty with a dusting of snow, Jenny. We had frost last week, too, but thankfully no snow yet!

Wow! The smattering of snow is beautiful – as is your last collection of summer flowers.

Oh no, snow! Are you very high up in the mountains? Glad you could save some of the last flowers – are those big white daisy-like flowers a kind of aster? Lovely!

We are in a valley at only 3,00ft, 100= meters. Peaks at 9,000 ft. Yes Asters, Michaelmas Daisies – not sure of name!
