Nature is messing with us. After our winter drought January and half of February, we received large dumps of snow this last week and and -12C temperatures. Today it is melting. This winter has definitely been a strange roller coaster of weather but it is a relief to see some much needed moisture .
The few green things that had been visible are now still well covered in white. The only green, other than evergreen, I have from the garden are the Forsythia leaves from the branches I brought in several weeks ago. The yellow flowers have long since dropped. I must go and trim some more and test a few others for forcing indoors. My daughter-in-law who lives on the west coast of British Columbia is boasting Camellia blossom which always makes me want to compete with something!
I was scrambling again this week. I can say the teeny twigs of green leaves are Forsythia from the garden but that is all. The bold heads of Gerbera are from our small Safeway florist and its florist’s floor. I can’t always rescue the number of dogs I would like to but discarded flowers are a cinch. Likewise, the vase is a discard, found in a local thrift shop. The little floating supports are a recently purchased novelty from Sweden.

I’m afraid these photos do not show the shallow but wide, fluted, glass vessel very well but the nature of it meant assembling in situ, to avoid large large overflows of water!
Gallery staff were lamenting the death of the hyacinths so a few florets of a white hyacinth can be seen also floating.
Fingers crossed by next week the snow will have disappeared and there will be green surprises lurking beneath.
