As is frequently the case from freezing to frying at this time of year, it happened again. However, I am still nervous about putting out the Zinnias that I need for two weddings this year. Night time temperatures have not dipped below freezing for a week but you just never know! I have the covers at the ready but soil temperatures just need to warm up a bit more for any growth to happen.
Growth is happening at a pace with many perennial plants however. The Mason bees were released a couple of weeks ago and they are exceedingly busy in this years prolific blossoms. I think it may be a bonanza apple year.
These little vases consist of a sampling of the apple blossom with its delightful fragrance. It is an old variety by the name of Haralson, which withstands our winters well. Most of these apples will be juiced. First purchased gerbera and dahlia flowers (still in the greenhouse) were perfect, accompanied by fresh Sweet Cicely leaves, for the newly gifted to me, posy vase. This one is a bit of a cheat but the plants will be added to the garden cut flower area! The Gerbera according to its label is’ Flora Line Midi Fireball Black Cener’, ( a mouthful )and the Dahlia is ‘Novation Salmon. ‘ Last, is my favourite vintage find vase with a few of my garden tulips, mixed varieties. These are all simple but very welcome vases of flowers.
