Thank you Cathy of Words and Herbs for encouraging us to look back on our summers of flowers. It has been fun, especially to see what others can grow through these months. I have over time, stretched the limits of what will grow in our zone and have discovered lots of plants that were previously thought to be too tender. Of course one bad winter of rapidly changing temperatures or plunges into arctic freezes will wipe out some plants but the challenges are fun. One of my favourite Canadian garden writers, Des Kennedy, called this experimentation, ‘Horticultural Bungee Jumping’. When I retired from teaching, I told my students this was what I was going to do, ‘go horticultural bungee jumping.’ Of course they only heard, ‘bungee jumping’ and parents didn’t know whether to be impressed or worried.
This collection, for my last post, is of my daughter and three of her girls, my grandgirls, all redheads. A friend made this delightful little set of vases to represent them!

…..and a few more flowers from August and September.

I cannot say with certainty what any of the varieties are as the Cranesbill especially cross pollinates and pops up!

and a quick flip back to July because I had not shown any of these roses! The white is a non- recurrent but hardy climber , Rosa ‘Polar Star’. The deep pink climber is ‘William Baffin’ from the Canadian Explorer Series bred at Morden, Manitoba and it is recurrent.

Thank you again Cathy for this little retrospective. I hope readers will check out your inspiring blog from Bavaria.
