In a Vase, Monday May 19th, 2025

Victoria long weekend here, first day of real camping season and it has rained most of the last three days. The gardeners are happy though as maybe it will hold off drought for a bit longer.

The garden foliage is growing a pace but the babies are all at a standstill as the nights are still cool. The tulips are fading and I’m waiting for the next burst of colour. This week’s vase contains what is in flower, Clematis alpina, Alpine clematis, Euphorbia polychroma, Cushion Spurge, Nepeta, Catmint, Lunaria, Money Plant or Honesty, Doronicum, Leopards Bane, Lamium galeobdolon Yellow Archangel and some Dwarf Iris

I love the Alpine Clematis. Mine volunteer all over the garden in shades of white, pink and blue. I have a pink one climbing the pink flowering Crab Apple tree.

As a little extra I used a broken dwarf purple Iris, Iris pumila with some Pulmonaria, Lungwort and a few twigs from Harry – ‘Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick’ Corylus avellana ‘Red Dragon’. Never waste a broken flower!

I hope you are able to pop over to ‘Rambling In The Garden’ where Cathy hosts ‘In a Vase On Monday’. You will find many other beautiful flowers from around the world.

Nice use of Harry Lauder, the stems are so interesting in arrangements. Lungwort is too, love the blossoms as well as the leaves!

Yes, love Harry for kinds of reasons, interest, form, shape, colour, texture etc!

What a great vase – I especially like the tendrils of clematis. I am intrigued by the vase itself, which seems to replicate a kind of sedimentary rock composed of different minerals. Your leftover second vase is adorable too! Thanks for sharing both

The vase was a market find from a local potter. I have used it so much – the shape is so useful.

Two gorgeous arrangements Jenny! And you have answered my question about whether you grow Euphorbia! Love the Clematis in the first vase (a beautiful vase too by the way), and it looks wonderful climbing up your tree. I also like that sweet Pulmonaria in the second very artistic vase. You have a hand for arranging flowers! 😃

Thank you for your kind words Cathy. I am tempted to deliberately put some Euphorbia where it is accessible just to test!

Both arrangements are lovely, Jenny. The graceful draping of the alpine Clematis makes the first arrangement in my view. I wish I had a Clematis half that bountiful in my garden. The only one that’s done well in my garden is Clematis terniflora, aka sweet autumn clematis.

Yes, the rest was a bit thrown together using what I had! Not my best so I appreciate your comments!

I love the Spillers in the arrangements and Pulmonaria always. I have a similar vase that I love to use. The Clematis is new to me, very pretty.

The Alpine Clematis are so reliable for me and early, which makes them very useful!
